Subaru is late to the electric vehicle game, but it plans to jump in as soon as mid-2022 with its first model. Indeed, the 2023 Subaru Solterra is on its way, a vehicle built on the companyâs e-Subaru Global Platform. The new model shares its underpinnings with the Toyota bz4X. We do not know much about the Solterra apart from the teaser photo released as August drew to a close. Per the automaker, it is âthe most technologically advanced Subaru to date.â This could mean several things, beginning with the architecture, which will feature two or more electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack. Like every Subaru model that is not a BRZ, the Solterra will feature standard all-wheel drive. Other factors about the Solterra include the companyâs latest tech offerings, including its STARLINK infotainment system interface. We expect the companyâs full range of driver-assist technologies will also be included. Moreover, some sort of autonomous driving capability seems certain. Just how far Subaru goes with that will depend on market conditions and government regulation. Styling and DebutThe rear three-quarter view of the Solterraâs back side does not indicate much, although the crescent-shaped tail lamp design is new. Further, the spoiler is not a look we have seen before on a Subaru, suggesting it may have been ported from Toyota. In any case, we expect Subaru to introduce a new design language, at least for its electric vehicles. No other details about the Subaru Solterra are currently available. We expect the automaker will debut the vehicle at the November Los Angeles Auto Show or perhaps as late as the February 2022 Chicago Auto Show. With a plant in Normal, Illinois, the latter will at least showcase whatâs coming down the pike the following summer. Subaru 2022 ChangesThe Solterra is one model year away, but the current 2022 model year features several changes of note. First, the sporty Subaru BRZ is all new. The tiny 2+2 sports coupe features a fresh design, although the look is not far removed from the outgoing model. What is significant about this vehicle is that it gained the brandâs 2.4-liter flat-head four-cylinder engine, making 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The engine replaces the previous 2.0-liter flat-four with 205 horsepower and 156 pound-feet of torque. As before, customers have a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions. Word has it that the new BRZ offers better handling thanks in part to a stiffer structure and improved suspension bits. Second, the Forester SUV receives a refresh. The current-generation model rolled out in 2019, therefore a fresh exterior countenance for its fourth year is in order. The interior features expanded technologies, available Nappa leather, and other comfort changes. Furthermore, the Wilderness sub-brand introduced last year to the Outback expands to the Forester. The Wilderness features larger wheels, protective underbody cladding, a 9.5-inch ground clearance, and a StarTex (imitation leather) interior. Third, the Legacy receives light changes. Two years removed from the release of the current-generation model, the midsize Legacy sedan returns with a few updates. To begin, the base model gains 17-inch alloy wheels with a black machine finish. Previously a $350 option, these wheels are now standard. The rest of the changes involve feature shuffling. For instance, the Premium model gains rear ventilation. Also, the Sport trim now includes a power moonroof and additional safety features. These particular safety upgrades comprise blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking. Safety FeaturesAs for the rest of the Subaru lineup, we are seeing light changes, including some movement of driver-assist tech to lower-trim models. An update look and new tech features for the 2022 Navigator. The Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade are locked in a war for customer attention, although the Cadillac outsells the Lincoln by a 2-to-1 margin. Lincoln, though, is gradually closing the gap thanks to a strong powertrain and an exceptional interior. One year removed from the most recent all-new Escalade, Lincoln refreshes its Navigator to again elevate its priciest model. Last fully redesigned in 2018, the 2022 Navigator represents an important refresh. This full-size sport utility vehicle is based on Fordâs large pickup truck platform. It is the elegant and more fashionable sister to the Ford Expedition, although we laud both models for what they bring to the segment. As before, shoppers have a choice of a standard wheelbase Navigator or an extended wheelbase model, the latter known as the Navigator L. Besides a refresh, the Navigator gains additional features. We are breaking down the changes as follows: Light Refreshes, ExteriorA new texture and shape come to the Navigatorâs grille. Also, the headlights feature pixel projector lighting elements for the first time. The rear LED taillights gain a nifty animation sequence. Here, the lights fade away from the center when approaching the SUV. Likewise, the same happens when exiting the SUV. Tech and Interior UpdatesGone is the 10-inch touch-screen display in favor of a 13.2-inch infotainment system. This one utilizes Fordâs SYNC 4 software system. New graphics for the digital gauge cluster are another feature. Over-the-air updates to the infotainment system are new and will allow Lincoln to add drive modes. Further, wireless Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay are included. On the comfort front, the second-row seats gain a new massage option along with cooling and heating. For the range-topping Black Label series, two additional themes roll out: Central Park and Invitation. They join the current Chalet and Yacht Club themes. Moreover, a Manhattan Green color scheme (as shown in the included photos), is new and exclusive to the Black Label. âBlack Label continues to be a key differentiator and opportunity for growth for Lincoln, setting us apart and showcasing the best of the brand, our vehicles and services,â said Michael Sprague, North America director, Lincoln. âNot only has Black Label continued to redefine what it means to shop for and purchase a luxury vehicle, but it also has elevated the entire experience of owning one.â Introducing BlueCruiseLincoln will now get its version of Fordâs BlueCruise system. BlueCruise is a semi-autonomous driving system with hands-free highway driver-assist known as ActiveGlide. On select mapped highways, drivers will be able to remove their hands from the steering wheel, allowing the Navigator to negotiate traffic. And no worrying that a driver might pull a Tesla and sit in the rear seat. Thanks to a camera aimed directly at the driver, the system will detect anomalies, such as a driver not paying attention. The BlueCruise feature is optional and exclusive to the Reserve and Black Label trims. Free for the first three years, a subscription cost begins in the fourth year. Slight Power AdjustmentEvery Navigator comes with a twin-turbocharged V6 engine. For 2022, it is tuned to deliver 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. That is down 10 horsepower, although the torque output remains the same. Lincoln did not explain the loss. As before, a 10-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear or all four wheels. Arriving Early 2022We shall see the updated Navigator in early 2022. As for pricing, that has not been announced. However, we expect it will start just under $80,000, with Black Label trims costing over $100,000, as they are now. The post Refreshed Lincoln Navigator Elevates This Model appeared first on Auto Trends Magazine. Refreshed Lincoln Navigator Elevates This Model published first on https://jacobslowpriceautoglass.tumblr.com/ via Tumblr Refreshed Lincoln Navigator Elevates This Model What 4xe means to the Jeep Wrangler. The electric vehicle revolution continues apace, with scores of new models available or planned. Most of the upcoming vehicles are based on new electric-dedicated platforms. But some are not, with the manufacturers choosing to electrify what they have. A case in point is the Jeep Wrangler, the venerable four-wheel-drive model that builds on an 80-year history of off-road prowess. Beginning in 2021, the first plug-in hybrid electric Jeep Wrangler enters the fray. This model retains all the off-road moxie of the traditional model while adding an element of electrification not seen before. Since we have covered the most recent Jeep extensively here and here, this review will drill down on the PHEV model. In any case, Jeep offers the 2021 Wrangler in two- and four-door body styles, the latter adding 20 inches between the wheels. Further, the four-door is sometimes referenced as the Wrangler Unlimited. The two-door Wrangler is priced from $29,070, while the Wrangler Unlimited starts at $32,570. Add $1,495 for the freight cost. As for the electrified 4xe, this one comes with four doors and is available in three trims. The 4xe starts at $51,025 and reaches $56,845.There is a near-$12,000 price premium over the standard model. However, on the top two trims, the difference is significantly less. Moreover, a $7,500 federal tax credit eases some of the burdens of shouldering the extra cost. Highlights of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4xeJeep made a big move by adding a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle model to the Wrangler line, specifically to the four-door Wrangler Unlimited. This is the first battery-powered Jeep model. That it went to its off-road kingpin demonstrates Jeepâs seriousness about environmental responsibility. Quite easily, Jeep could have chosen the Renegade or Compass to begin its mission, but instead, they chose the burliest model of all. Further, Jeep is supporting its quest by building electric charging stations at key trailheads across the United States. Thus, savvy trail stompers can extend their all-electric time by simply recharging when taking a break. Here is what you need to know about the 4xe:Limited RangeFew PHEVs deliver a stellar range. Thatâs not their mission. Instead, the current crop of models typically delivers anywhere from 17 to 50 miles of electric power, depending on the size of the battery. For the Wrangler Unlimited 4xe, the range is 25 miles. This means drivers can choose all-electric power until the battery runs out or let it switch naturally between the gas engine and the battery or both. Jeep even makes it possible to conserve the batteryâs use until later. It is all on the driver to decide when best to utilize the electricity. Dedicated PHEV SystemThis Wrangler is the second PHEV from Fiat Chrysler, which is now part of Stellantis. Jeep could have gone with the system motivating the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, but they did not. Instead, under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Two electric motors are added with one replacing the starter/alternator and the other into the 8-speed automatic transmission. Thus, the second motor replaces the torque converter for improved low-end grunt. With the full system engaged, the 4xe makes a whopping 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. Thatâs a significant amount of power at the driverâs disposal. In addition, this Jeep features various transmission models as well as full-time 4Hi, part-time 4Hi, and 4-lo. Making a ConnectionRelated to the performance quotient is how the Wrangler Unlimited 4xe replenishes power. First, the EV system generates power from regenerative braking as well as from the gas motor. Thatâs not enough to replenish completely, but it is one of the ways the 4xe draws electricity. Second, a plug-in port located on the front driverâs side of the vehicle above the wheel well and near the mirror connects either to your home power outlet or to a 220-volt outlet. The first one takes 12 hours to top off, while the second one gets it done in about 2.5 hours. Unfortunately, the 4xe cannot connect to some of the new charging stations appearing across the country. Instead, an upgraded home connection or a public charging port at your local library or parking garage may suffice. We tried our local Electrify America stations and quickly learned we needed to connect elsewhere. Power and Versatility PreservedThe Wrangler Unlimited 4xe keeps the power going while remaining highly versatile. This vehicle can pull up to 3,500 pounds. It can also navigate streams up to 30 inches deep. Importantly, the 4xe has an approach angle of 44 degrees, a breakover angle of 22.5 degrees, and a departure angle of 35.6 degrees. These are robust numbers and the reason why all three 4xe trims wear a Trail-Rated badge. Rugged Looking as EverSome hear the word âelectricâ and immediately begin thinking about the Toyota Prius or some other nondescript model. Admittedly, the initial crop of EVs was nothing to brag about style-wise. We are fortunate that Jeep stuck with the boxy Wrangler theme and retained all the features we like, including the removable parts. The roof, doors, and windshield come off or dropdown. The trademark over fenders remains. The instantly recognizable seven-slat grille dominates the front fascia. The squared-off rear includes a door thatâs hardly large enough to squeeze items inside. Nevertheless, the 4xe loses nothing in the translation to electric. So, shelve those fears and explore the EV side of the Wrangler. Inside, the utilitarian theme of the Wrangler is on display in all its glory. The Wrangler hearkens to another era where rugged good looks, wipeable plastic surfaces, and washout floors remain common. However, with far more electronic equipment included, minding a loose hose is required. Cloth seats are standard, but leather is available. The Wrangler Unlimited comes with a three-place rear seat. It is a sharp improvement over the two seats in the standard Wrangler which are about as comfortable as jump seats in some other models. With the 4xe, the lithium-ion battery pack is under the rear seat. That means no passenger or storage space is sacrificed to accommodate it. Tech and Safety FeaturesJeep equips the 4xe with a full range of tech features. An Alpine Premium Audio System is standard and comes with HD Radio and satellite radio. An 8.4-inch touchscreen display, Wi-Fi hotspot, USB ports, navigation, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included. On the safety front, Jeep includes such features as electronic roll mitigation and electronic stability control. Hill-start assist, traction control, and trailer sway damping is standard. On the top High Altitude trim, Jeep includes blind-spot and cross-path detection. Also, a rear parking assist system. Road and TrailNo Wrangler supplies a comfortable ride or decent steering. Our Rubicon test model made things worse, by contributing to wobbly steering, which is already a Jeep matter. Nevertheless, the Sahara model comes with 20-inch tires and would by reason make a better on-road performer. But the Wrangler is not made for the road. Sure, you can scoot down the highway with the best of them and find this SUV is fast and strong. But it is when you take the Jeep off-road where it begins to show its power. You can leave the Wrangler in 2WD for long stretches of off-roading. Only when the terrain becomes bumpy or otherwise uncertain, is a switch to 4Hi warranted. Even then, going part-time may be enough. Only switch to full-time once you are ready to do some serious climbing. There is not another SUV that imbues the level of confidence of a Jeep Wrangler. We have taken it to some very challenging places, including Uwharrie National Forest and its multi-grade off-road trails. Closer to home, there are enough off-road trails and gravel paths to play with. What we noticed with the 4xe is that it matches the gas models in all things versatility. The difference between the 4xe and the gas models is apparent the moment you step on the accelerator. Immediately, a generous amount of power kicks in. Further, when operated solely in electric mode, there is no lack of power to move up, over, and down hills. Not only did Jeep ensure the 4xe is capable, but it has more power on tap than the gas models. You can expect at least three hours of driving time with the battery pack supplying full power when off-roading. In the process, you will save about a gallon of gasoline and that adds up for the serious off-road enthusiast. Parting ThoughtsThe Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4xe does not come cheaply. That said, eligible buyers will find a $7,500 tax credit to help defray some of its cost. In some states, such as California, local incentives are also available. With a $5,000 spread between models, the decision on which 4xe to choose. You might also consider a few options, such as a hardtop roof ($2,495) and adaptive cruise control ($795). You will also pay $295 for any exterior color that is not white. Optional leather seats, a steel bumper group, and body-color fender flares drove our test modelâs final price to a jaw-dropping $62,660. Switched On: Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4xe published first on https://jacobslowpriceautoglass.tumblr.com/ via Tumblr Switched On: Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4xe The Honda City is a subcompact sedan that was first revealed by Honda in 1981. The car was meant for Japan and other select markets like Australia and Europe, which is why it was initially produced as a hatchback. At that time, hatchbacks were popular in Europe, and Honda was looking to capture the market with their offering. Sadly, the Honda City could not outperform its staunch rivals, and the Japanese company discontinued the car only thirteen years after its initial release. However, that wasnât to be the end of the City. It was revived two years later in 1996, and this time, the vehicle entered the automotive market with a bang. Honda released the car in the developing countries of Asia, like India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Unsurprisingly, the City was an almost instant hit. It came as an economical option for people looking for something smaller than the Honda Civic and Accord. The Honda City was so well received that is still sold in Asia. And it has entered its seventh generation in many markets. Exterior DesignThe first-ever Honda City was so small that it could hardly fit three people inside. It resembled a lot of other Japanese cars of its time, like the second-generation Suzuki Alto. The only big difference was that the City had fender mirrors, Honda badges, and round headlights. Needless to say, this car wasnât the most beautiful of its era. In 1996, Honda released the first iteration of the Honda City sedan, and this car was received extremely well by the public. The exterior design resembled a Civic, but there were slight tweaks here and there to differentiate the City from its older sibling. The third generation and its timeless design meant that people were not ready to part with it any time soon. But Honda was adamant on making its mark in the industry, and so six years later, they revealed the fourth generation Honda City. The designers chose to go with a sportier aesthetic, and therefore the entire exterior got a complete revamp. The ride height increased, the hood got shorter, and the headlights as well as the taillights changed completely. In other words, the Honda City turned into a more beautiful car. Honda City GenerationsMany people thought that Honda couldnât improve on the fourth-generation model. But they proved everyone wrong, and in came the highly attractive fifth-generation City. This vehicle was bigger, more powerful, and better looking than the previous model. In fact, this generation of Honda City broke all previous sales records. It sold like hotcakes on a Sunday sale. And then Honda went on and made something even better. The sixth-generation Honda City got a redesign, and it outperformed its predecessors. Finally, the seventh generation came out recently. The new Honda City promises to be a top-seller in the Honda line-up since this car looks, performs, and outshines most other vehicles in its category. Engine OptionsThe first-generation Honda City model received a 1,200-cc engine. Only one option was on offer, but in terms of transmission, there were several choices. Then in the second generation, Honda offered 1.2- and 1.3-liter engines along with a 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual. However, the real power came with the sedan models. The third-generation, for example, got 1.3- and 1.5-liter engine options. Buyers could opt for the base D13B engine, the D15B, or the more advanced D15B VTEC. In the next generation, Honda changed the entire powertrain line-up and introduced the L series engines. The same engine capacity was used as before, but the power output increased slightly. The L series engines continued forward to all of the future generations with slight changes in power output. Drivability and PerformanceThe Honda City offers a pleasurable drive that outmatches its rivals. The car has powerful acceleration, and it is pretty smooth on the highway. But you might feel that the suspension is a bit on the harder side. That isnât a problem on a longer route, but if you are driving in the city, and managing countless potholes, driving this car can be slightly uncomfortable. In terms of handling, the Honda City offers a wonderful experience. You wonât find it difficult to drive this car, park it, or take it through narrow streets. On the highway, it holds its ground, which is always a bonus. Final ThoughtsThe Honda City is one of the best cars to come out of this Japanese marque. And seeing its success, we hope that it is introduced in other markets of the world like the U.S and Europe Public domain photos from Wikipedia. The post What is the Honda City? appeared first on Auto Trends Magazine. What is the Honda City? published first on https://jacobslowpriceautoglass.tumblr.com/ via Tumblr What is the Honda City? Engines are complex pieces of machinery that are built entirely on a âbest decision for the supposed useâ basis. Notably, one such choice is the design of the engineâs crankshafts, or more precisely, the crankshaftâs weights. A flat-plane crank engine is basically an engine where the crankshaftâs counterweights are alternating each other in a 180-degree angle. Further, the crank has multiple journal bearings: ones where the connecting rod sits, others that sit on the engineâs block. The counterweights are set between the connecting rod bearings, on each side of said bearing. These counterweights will alternate at a certain angle from each other based on the engineering and the engineâs purpose. Crankshaft WobbleWhy does this angular alternation even matter? Well, a crankshaft obviously spins. Thatâs the component that links to the transmission, and as such the wheels. If the crankshaft isnât balanced, that is, itâs center of mass doesnât sit on the axis of rotation, the crankshaft will wobble. Specifically, wobbling means vibration. If you feel the wobble by revolving such item slowly, imagine how it will feel when the shaft spins at 8000 rpm with a cluster of force. Consequently, the car will tremble like mad. Large components which will raise the center of mass quite remarkably are the connecting rod and piston. Therefore, by having those joined to the crankshafts utilizing journal bearings, if the crankshaft spins even at 500 rpm, the engine will shake severely due to it having a notably high center of mass. Therefore, to counteract this and balance said crankshaft, engineers add counterweights to the pistons and connecting rods, which move the center of mass back down on the rotation axis. To illustrate, is it easier for you to walk with weights on your shoulders, on your feet, or around your waist? Probably the waist as itâs easier for you to keep balanced. This alternation matters. If they are alternating at a 180-degree angle, you are contributing an agglomeration of mass vertically which must spin with the engine. Thus, you are only balancing weight vertically, when the engine starts spinning, the weight shifts sideways while spinning, vibrating horizontally. Importantly, to counteract this, we shift weights at 90-degree increments, as an example. By doing this, the weights and forces also start overlapping horizontally on the same bank, making the entire engine vibrate less. This configuration is called a cross-plane crank. Flat-Plane Crank: Advantages and DisadvantagesCertainly, the flat-plane crank engine has several advantages and disadvantages. For instance, the biggest advantage mechanically is the fact that the overall engine is lighter. As a result, weights can be smaller. This means that the explosion produced by the air-fuel mixture pushes a smaller weight, so there are fewer inertial losses there. (Bigger mass means bigger inertia, a bigger negative force to overcome). Consequently, this gives the engine the capability of high RPMs. Moreover, being that this engine design is light, a flat-plane crank also has an exemplary throttle response. Lastly, the engines are more cost-effective, both to manufacture and design. The design allows the engineers to produce a stronger and muscular engine while keeping the overall size down, due to material usage. Another big advantage appears when itâs used in V-style engines. Consequently, the design allows engineers to pick a very specific firing order. You could call it consecutive firing, considering it makes a great deal of sense. It fires a piston on the left bank, followed by the symmetrical piston on the right bank. This allows the engine to push the crankshaft continuously with each firing stroke, allowing the engine to reach high RPMs fast. Moreover, it permits the engineers to develop a simple exhaust manifold with ample flow for each bank. Also, this manifold dictates a very distinct exhaust sound, with a sharp note and sounding very much like a âracing engine.â On the other hand, the engine vibrates quite a bit, especially at high engine volumes and RPMs. Engine UsageFlat-plane crank engines are rather niche and specific, since as far as V engines go, an overwhelming majority of manufacturers go for cross-plane due to quietness and smoothness. Manufacturers use flat-plane crank engines on sports cars, race cars, and surprisingly on cheap four-cylinder engines. For the four-cylinder engines, this layout is preferred since they are cheap to design, produce, and manufacture. On the other side, when talking sports cars and race cars, chiefly European manufacturers produce them. American manufacturers prefer smooth and powerful V6s, V8s, and V10s. Conversely, Europeans prize fast screamer cars with V8s and larger. Ferrari, McLaren, Lotus, and Koenigsegg are some that come to mind. For example, think of the new Koenigsegg Jesko, which has a 12.5 kg crankshaft with a redline of 8500 RPM. The McLaren P1 is also a worthwhile example as is the Ferrari F430. Domestic ApplicationsCertainly, European manufacturers are not the only ones who have delved into the world of flat-plane crank engines. For instance, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 utilizes a flat-plane crank on their 5.2L V8 âVoodooâ engine, which outputs 526 horsepower and has a redline of 8250 RPM. In addition, the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will reportedly have a 5.5-liter V8 with a flat-plane crank. With twin turbos included, the ZR1 should top 800 horsepower. The hits keep coming for the Genesis marque, but are we surprised? Five new models in five years and Hyundaiâs luxury brand continues to provide a strong statement for itself. Soon, a sixth model will roll out, its first dedicated all-electric model. Meanwhile, the 2022 Genesis GV70 is here, a compact sport utility vehicle that brings verve and value to the class. We were able to preview one, and as usual, we were also quite impressed. 2022 Genesis GV70The Genesis GV70 is a compact to medium-sized SUV with room for five. It is available in a pair of trims: 2.5T ($41,500) and 3.5T ($52,600), plus $1,045 for the freight charge. Genesis offers sub-trims as well, which are packages with names such as Select, Advanced, and Sport Prestige. Customers have a choice of two turbocharged engines paired with an automatic transmission. Genesis made all-wheel drive standard, which is oftentimes an upgrade for this segment. The GV70 is the second Genesis SUV, as it follows the GV80 to the market. Genesis launched its brand with a succession of three sedans, followed by the two SUVs. The GV70 is built on the same platform underpinning the G70 sedan. Highlights of the 2022 Genesis GV70Arriving in summer 2021, the Genesis GV70 bridges the small and medium-sized luxury utility vehicle segment. With this review, we are focusing on the highlights and key features first before sharing our driving impressions of the V6. Gorgeous ExpressionSince its 2017 launch, Genesis has been delivering models that exceed expectations. We saw elements of that when the Genesis and Equus were under Hyundai. But to set the new brand apart, something new was needed. Enter the SUVs. The sedans are beautiful as are the SUVs. When we test drove our first model, the GV80, comparisons to far more expensive models such as Bentley were made. Both Genesis SUVs possess a stunning presence. Importantly, the GV70 loses little to the GV80. The GV70âs front fascia parallels the other Genesis models with its diamond-shaped grille. The quad LED headlights are separated by LED lights for a distinct expression. Lovely cutouts, carefully conceived character lines, and other touches such as third profile windows and unique diffuser trim add interest. Neoteric wheel designs, large wraparound tail lamps, and fat exhaust tips are sporty embellishments of note. Lavish InteriorCertainly, the exterior is captivating. But the interior is even better. That may seem difficult to fathom, but it is true. Some describe the dashboard as resembling an aircraft wing. We see what they mean, but even if you do not, the styling is there. Specifically, the instrument panel is the primary focus of the dashboard, along with an oblong display on top of the dash. The top and bottom parts are separated by a long vent port and this is where the âwing-likeâ look comes in. Whatâs especially stunning, though, is the contrasting colors, particularly with the dark top and vibrant red bottom in our test model. You must look around to find plastic touches. High-end materials dominate and include aluminum trim, knurled buttons and switches, various other metals, and patterned carbon fiber pieces. The leather seats are handsome and comfortable, but it is the Nappa leather on the top trim that makes a significant difference. All trims come with heated front seats. Ventilation and massaging are available. We found the driverâs seat on the 3.5T model exceptional as this one includes 16-way power adjustment, power side bolsters, and the seat extender, all welcome features. Take note of the available heated outboard rear seats. They not only warm the backside, but they recline up to 26 degrees. We found that area slightly more spacious than the comparable G70 sedan. Moreover, the sloping roofline does little to impede headroom. Genesis supplies 28.9 cubic feet of standard cargo space between the 60/40 split fold-down rear seat. Fold those seats flat and the storage space nearly doubles. Both figures are about average for the class. Safety FeaturesIt is too early for crash test results to grade the GV70. Even so, we expect strong scores from both the IIHS and the NHTSA once the testing has been accomplished. Notably, the GV70 comes with eight airbags. One of the bags deploys between the front seats, keeping the passengers from hitting each other or slamming into the dashboard. The list of standard features includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Also, blind-spot monitoring, active lane cruise, and adaptive cruise control with full stop and go. Other features include automatic high beams and parking sensors. There are a few options available including rear-seat minders and a surround-view camera system. We were particularly impressed with the side camera system that is activated with a flick of the turn signal. In doing so, the driverâs field of vision expands to the left or the right with the output displayed on the instrument panel. Tech FeaturesFor a starting price of $41,000, the GV70 is shockingly well equipped. This model comes with a 14.5-inch touch-screen display with navigation, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone compatibility, wireless charging, and USB ports. Among the upgrades are an 18-speaker Lexicon audio system and a surround-view camera system. The upgraded sound system is amazing as it fills the cabin with a concert-hall quality vibe. Power ChoicesWhat are your performance requirements? Happily, the GV70 comes with not one, but two engine choices. And both are turbocharged. The standard engine is a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. This one develops 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Let those numbers sink in for a moment as they represent a power density that is quite impressive for the class. Inasmuch as the first engine has strong power output, the upgraded engine is almost impossible to ignore. This one is a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine with 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. It is sharp and makes the GV70 move fast. The run-up to 60 mph takes place in under 5 seconds. Both engines work with a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. On the RoadWe have driven Genesis models with both engine choices. The standard engine is strong, but we think even with the smaller GV70, the V6 is the better choice. This engine delivers V8-equivalent performance, which is represented by strong step-off acceleration and passing power. Indeed, the turbos kick in immediately, rocketing this SUV to highway speeds and beyond in short order. No, the GV70 does not handle like the G70 sedan, but it comes quite close. On the straightway, it shines brightly. A stiff body keeps the GV70 relatively composed. We say ârelativelyâ because there is always some body roll present. It does not do a stellar job as a Porsche Macan when hanging the curves or while entering or leaving corners, but our complaints are few and our praise is earned. The available electronic limited-slip differential shifts 100-percent of the power to the rear wheels when needed. The engine is strong and works well with the automatic transmission, which never seems at a loss for finding the right gear for the moment. Under full throttle the exhaust hums, but it is not especially loud. We can imagine Genesis developing a performance line with larger turbos producing even more power with the V6. Until then, the engine choices are quite remarkable. abc Our RecommendationThe low starting price for the GV70 is a true eye-catcher. It is difficult to imagine a feature-laden luxury model such as this one priced from under $50,000, well equipped. We have seen comparably loaded mainstream models come in awfully close to this price threshold. Clearly, Genesis has them in mind and is doing everything it can to win new customers to the brand. Thus, we see the GV70 poaching customers from its luxury competitors as well as winning new customers to the class. Lavishly Luxurious: 2022 Genesis GV70 SUV published first on https://jacobslowpriceautoglass.tumblr.com/ via Tumblr Lavishly Luxurious: 2022 Genesis GV70 SUV The GV60 is the first electric-dedicated Genesis model. Five years after introducing its first model, the Genesis brand is ready to move on to its sixth. Three sedans followed by two SUVs have put Hyundaiâs luxury marque on solid footing. We knew the sixth model would be electric and thatâs been confirmed in the GV60, its latest model. Genesis introduced its first all-electric car this month by distributing pictures online. This one is a crossover based on a dedicated EV platform. The new model, expected in 2022, incorporates some of the styling elements of the two Genesis SUVs. However, it is a distinctly different look, one that resembles a hatchback with its clamshell liftgate. The new vehicle will ride on the companyâs E-GMP architecture, which also underpins the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. Those models are further along in the design process. Besides the photos, we do not have much to go on with the Genesis GV60. That said, we can surmise a few things, including the following. Handsome Design CuesAdmittedly, we are drawn to the Genesis design. Every vehicle is elegant, with stacked LED accent lighting representing its signature look. The GV60 incorporates sporty elements, including a kicked -beltline, sloping roofline, and nifty blacked-out elements. The front fascia suggests an electric vehicle with the notched slab connecting the headlamps. But the gaping lower grille, whether it is cosmetic or functional, is a welcome design element. Tesla, take note! Roomy CabinThe GV60 is compact, but we believe it will comfortably seat four and make room for five in a pinch. The short overhangs mean that the space is optimized for the passengers. Most of the cargo space is in the rear. We are not sure how Genesis will design the front trunk (frunk), but there is bound to be at least some space set aside for storage. Elegant InteriorWe would expect nothing less than a gorgeous interior with the GV60. Genesis simply does not disappoint. Indeed, the sample blue color scheme, leathering, stitching, and trim pieces show much attention to detail. We are almost certain that rear wood or carbon fiber will grace some trims. Introducing Crystal SphereGenesis dropped a new term with their press release. This one is called Crystal Sphere. The company describes it as âa sphere-shaped Shift By Wire (SBW) that intuitively informs drivers when the vehicle is ready to drive.â The system supplies ambient lighting when the vehicle is turned off. When the vehicle is turned on, the sphere rotates and the Shift-By-Wire appears. We also like the digital side-view mirrors inside. They replace traditional mirrors and likely will presage a design movement for the industry writ large. Power to the EVGenesis made no note about the EVâs powertrain, other than it being fully electric. Because it shares its underpinnings with two other Hyundai and Kia models, there are a few matters we can deduce. First, a 77.4-kWh battery pack should sit between the axles. We expect single- and dual-mode choices with power sent to the rear or all four wheels. The Ioniq model delivers 225 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque in the single application and 320 horsepowers and 446 pound-feet of torque in the dual application. Second, the GV60 will likely get an 800-volt electrical system for extremely fast charging. This means that a nearly depleted battery would regain approximately 80 percent of its power in under 20 minutes. Thus, even with a 10-minute connection, the GV60 would be ready to continue with its long trip. Genesis DetailsFull details about the GV60 should arrive in the coming months. We expect a beginning price point around $50,000 or $60,000 when fully loaded. In any case, the GV60 is the first model that will help this luxury maker pivot to electrification The post Itâs Electric: Introducing the Genesis GV60 appeared first on Auto Trends Magazine. Itâs Electric: Introducing the Genesis GV60 published first on https://jacobslowpriceautoglass.tumblr.com/ via Tumblr Itâs Electric: Introducing the Genesis GV60 Kia is a Korean automotive brand that manufactures vehicles of all shapes and sizes. One such car in their roster is the Kia Cerato that has been in production since 2003. In America, the same car is called the Kia Forte, while in Europe, it is known as the Kia Ceed. It is a compact vehicle that is available in hatchback, coupe, and sedan body styles in most markets. Interestingly, you can buy one in all the habitable continents of the world, which might make you wonder about its success. Well, the Kia Cerato is a highly popular car, and it has made a name for itself thanks to its reliability, good looks, and features. Kia introduced it not too long ago, and now the vehicle is in its fourth generation. The company is trying to further increase its market share by introducing it in new markets like Pakistan. Exterior LooksThe Kia Cerato is a 21st-century car, and as such, it is based on a modern design DNA. However, in 2003, when the first generation launched, many enthusiasts were skeptical about the carâs aesthetics. The Cerato looked like a regular sedan that wouldnât raise any eyebrows when it passed down the street. Kia was adamant about changing that image with the facelift. As a result, the Kia Cerato R was introduced, and fans took a sigh of relief, thinking the Korean brand was taking the right steps to modify the bland exterior looks. The second generation was much better, with the sedan and hatchback getting some aggressive styling. The front-end and the rear-end were revamped to showcase a more dominant look. It wasnât long before people started falling in love with the new Kia Cerato. The company observed an increase in sales, especially in Asian markets. Kia was competing against the likes of Toyota and Honda. Both of these brands had cars like the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic in contention. So, to beat them, Kia had to come up with a clever strategy. Kiaâs intentions became clear when they displayed the third-generation Kia Cerato. The car got a complete redesign to bring it on par with its competition. The front grille, the headlights, and the dominating front bumper made things interesting. The coupe variant looked even better. Now, the Kia Cerato is in its fourth generation. And this time one is also an improved version of the one before. The car has sleeker lights, more aggressive cuts, and lines, along with must-have features. It is clear that Kia is here to dominate and possibly overtake the sedan segment, especially in certain emerging markets. They have their best chance with the Kia Cerato, owing to its good looks and popularity. Engine OptionsInitially, Kia offered five engine choices for the Cerato. You could choose from the base variant, the 1.6L Alpha II â an inline-4 gasoline engine. One step up the ladder, you could opt for the 2.0 L Beta II. Moreover, the Korean brand offered diesel variants, with the smallest engine being the 1.5 liters, while the top of the line went up to 2.0 liters. All the motors were teamed up with either a 4-speed automatic or a 5speed manual. The latter represents a standard specification in terms of the gearbox. The company carried over the engine options from the first-generation model into the second generation. The powertrains were so well chosen that there was no need to change their lineup. The same philosophy followed onto the next two generations. So, you get the same 1.6-liter & 2.0-liter gasoline engines. On top of the 1.5-, 1.6-, and 2.0-liter diesel motors in some markets. Drivability and PerformanceThe sales of the Kia Cerato have been on the rise since it was first released. The exponential increase in the sales volume shows that the people love the Kia Cerato. They want more out of the vehicle, and it seems Kia is willing to comply. So, why does the Kia Cerato have millions of fans around the world? Well, to start, the car is highly capable both on the highway and in the city. The base 1.6-liter engine allows the vehicle to accelerate quickly, which means reaching highway speeds is a breeze. And you can easily maneuver city driving with a decent amount of torque from the powertrain. But having said that, the Kia Cerato is no Corolla or Civic. It has to achieve a lot in a small amount of time, both in terms of performance and popularity, to come to the level of these giants. That will happen soon, thanks to Kiaâs constant efforts to improve the car year on year. Final ThoughtsThe Kia Cerato is a force to be reckoned with, and we say that with the utmost confidence. This car has the qualities and characteristics of becoming one of the top-selling vehicles in the world. Many people in the world agree. When you drive one, you may have no choice but to nod in agreement. What is the Kia Cerato? published first on https://jacobslowpriceautoglass.tumblr.com/ via Tumblr What is the Kia Cerato? Diesel engine runaway is rare, to say the least. These days, the chances of such an event happening are low, as most of the contributing parts are electronic. But first matters first: what exactly is âdiesel engine runawayâ? As defined, a diesel engine runaway, diesel runaway, or runaway diesel is a phenomenon where the diesel engine uses a fuel that enters the ignition chamber uncontrolled and igniting it without control. Notably, the said fuel does not need to be diesel â we are simply using a common term that can also be applied to gas engines. Due to this issue, the engine can ignite said fuel as fast as the uncontrolled source can supply. And way faster than the engine ever should. Given you do not have control of said source, your accelerator will not stop the problem nor does removing the key from the ignition help (if all the accessories are driven by the engine). Diesel Engine Runaway ReasonsThis problem continues until one of the following conditions are met:
How does a runaway diesel happen precisely? Let us examine the ways. To begin, the fuel enters the ignition chamber without control. Keep in mind that diesel engines work differently than gas engines. When you press the accelerator with a diesel, the engine doesnât open a throttle valve somewhere, it just sprays more fuel. By spraying more fuel in the ignition chamber, the ECU alters the air-fuel mixture, either for power or economy. While air is free-flowing through the engine, the fuel is not as it is controlled by the ECU. Also, the fuelâs ignition is not caused by a spark, like in a regular gas engine. The ignition happens due to a gas law. Without delving into details, high pressure and low volume increase the temperature. When the piston is at its top dead center, pressure is maximum and volume is at its minimum. As such, there is a high temperature that ignites the fuel. Beyond the RedlineNow you can comprehend the severity of the issue. If fuel also enters uncontrolled, then no components are controlled, so the engine can do whatever it wants. In this case, by spinning as fast as it wants, way beyond the redline. This fuel can vary a bit but within reason. One possibility is that it is, in fact, regular diesel. Let us assume that the injectors are mechanical, and an electric fuel pump has a glitch, whatever the reason may be. Due to this, it can start outputting as much fuel as it can, and burning it all in the process, hence the runaway diesel. Another more significant possibility is due to a broken seal or a broken turbocharger, causing oil to spray into the ignition chamber. The oil pump is not controlled by the accelerator, its job is to circulate oil to lubricate the engine. Thus, it has an overall constant flow. In this case, oil enters the ignition chamber and starts this runaway diesel phenomenon. Further, yet another possibility is that the air outside is contaminated due to a gas leak. Notably, the gas leak can create an acceptable combustible mixture that will surely ignite when it gets inside the engine. How to Stop a Diesel Engine RunawayNow, how do you stop a runaway diesel? Certainly, trying to stop one is quite a dangerous procedure. Indeed, a diesel engine is designed to spin at a redline of approximately 4000 rpm. A runaway diesel can spin to 8000 rpm, which is double the redline. As such, you are asking for a connecting rod to crack and the piston attached to said rod to burst through the valve cover. (Not a diesel, but the damage could be precisely the same). Certainly, you do not want to mess with such a matter, so your options are limited. The safest bet is when your vehicle has a manual transmission, although you will surely ruin that transmission in the process. On the other hand, attempting to stop the vehicle with an automatic transmission will not work. Specifically, with a manual, you can stop the car. First, engage the parking brake. Second, shift into fifth or sixth gear. Third, disengage the clutch pedal so that the engine will stall. Furthermore, If you are brave and know what youâre doing, you can raise the hood and block the intake. You know where the air filter is located and thatâs in the air intake. For example, if you block the intake or plug it with a piece of wood or a bunch of cloth, then the engine will stall. Also, you could unload a fire extinguisher into the intake. A fire extinguisher is based on CO2, which doesnât burn. This represents another semi-safe option. Apart from that, there are not numerous ways to stop a runaway engine other than calling for firefighters and allowing the fuel to run out or the engine to seize. The Prevalence of the ProblemAre cars more prone to diesel engine runaway? Indirectly yes. This problem usually happens due to poor maintenance. Particularly, due to gas mixing with enough air for the engine to use it as an air-fuel mixture, all the instances assume that a part failed. Semi-trucks are maintained rather well and the same can be said about trains. A maintained semi-truck or train will not develop such issues, to begin with. Now, an older diesel engine from a truck or a car that was not particularly well taken care of can have these issues. Broken seals or an almost dead turbocharger are not uncommon, and neither are aged fuel pumps. Moreover, there are plenty of car owners who âtuneâ their cars or trucks, making them produce more power. This also causes extra stress on the engine and represents another reason why it happens more often with cars. Lastly, an older tractor can surely have this diesel engine runaway problem emerges, although the number of aging models on the road is thankfully quite small See Also â Get Boosted! Diesel Engine Runaway: Cause and Effect published first on https://jacobslowpriceautoglass.tumblr.com/ via Tumblr Diesel Engine Runaway: Cause and Effect Many people utilize laptops in their cars for a variety of reasons. From typing up work reports to listening to music to checking commercial project progress while on the road, there are always reasons to stay connected. But this can quickly become a major problem if you do not have an easy way to mount your laptop in your vehicle. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to find the right setup for your laptop. Here are six tips to mount your laptop in your car and return to business. 1. Find The Right Mounting Device for Your LaptopThe right mounting device will allow you to view your laptop screen at a comfortable angle and work on the keyboard without bending into awkward positions. Notably, if it is difficult or impossible for you to type while holding your arm out in front of you, there are plenty of other options available to help you boost your productivity. When searching for the mount thatâs right for you, you will want to be on the lookout for high-quality, sturdy materials and easy attachment options. Further, the majority of laptop mounts will need to be installed with screws and other tools to maintain their stability, but there are a handful of varieties that require no drilling at all! 2. Position Your Laptop In a Safe PlaceWhether you spend a few hours checking work progress in a business truck like the GMC Sierra or spend your working days as service personnel in a van like the Ford Transit, the best place to mount a laptop is over your center console or near your passenger seat. For instance, not only is this position easy to reach, but it will keep your device safe from spills or physical damage in the event of an accident. Furthermore, it will also allow you to avoid placing your laptop near the air conditioner or windshield, which would expose it to varying temperatures that impact your deviceâs performance. 3. Secure Your Laptop With Clamps, Straps, or ScrewsEven with a proper laptop mount for your car, you canât rely on it to hold your laptop securely if you have not employed the provided clamps, screws, or straps. For instance, you must ensure you have got a tight grip on your device by securing it to the mount to keep it from moving around when you are driving. The best mount should also be adjustable so that you can conveniently change the orientation of your laptop to be more comfortable and convenient. A quality laptop mount for your car should be able to hold your laptop securely without applying pressure or torque on the screen, which can damage it. Moreover, when using a mount that clamps onto the bottom of your device or holds it in place with an adjustable strap around its edges, ensuring there are no sharp surfaces for your machine to bump against when youâre driving. 4. Install An Anti-theft Alarm System For LaptopsCar theft rates may have dropped in recent years, but laptop and mobile device theft are still fairly common. To prevent thieves from taking your deviceâand all of the important information it containsâyou should invest in an anti-theft alarm system. They are affordable and can help keep you safe while traveling with your device. Further, there are even certain systems that plug into a 12V outlet, so they will work when there is no power source available (perfect for car camping). The right alarm should be able to detect motion, vibrations, and even someone attempting to open the laptop and send you mobile notifications. 5. Position Your Laptop Properly to Avoid Strain On Wrists, Arms, And NeckAnother tip for successfully mounting a laptop in your car is to position it properly to avoid strain on your wrists, arms, and neck. Specifically, position the laptop so that you do not need to reach too far or stretch your hands to access all the keys. For example, if you are using a traditional keyboard layout, you will want to place the keyboard at a height where your wrists are nearly straight and not bent. In particular, consider acquiring a keyboard tray so that it will allow you to position your hands in a comfortable and neutral position. 6. Utilize A Protective Case Or Sleeve To Guard Against DamageUtilize a protective case or sleeve to protect your device from bumps and scratches when on the road. If you do not have one, use your bag for added protection. Keep in mind that your laptop is valuable to you, and you rely on it to accomplish your work done. Consequently, protect it from the dangers of travel by using caution whenever itâs in your work truck, SUV, or van. Once you are finished using it, place it back inside and zip up your bag to keep it safe. Mounting a Laptop in a Car is Rather StraightforwardMounting a laptop in a car is mostly straightforward. Certainly, with research, you can find the right type of mount that is compatible with your device. It then takes employing simple steps to ensure everything fits securely. Go ahead and enjoy your drive as you take your work on the road. See Also â 10 Reasons Your Car May Not Be Performing Well (and How to Fix It) Photo by ThisIsEngineering from Pexels.
